Abstract: For years, the Roy family's almost sociopathic personal and professional experiences have been set in mansions, penthouses and compounds, perfectly depicting the characters' insatiable appetites and taste for opulence.

We are in the fourth and final season of Inheritance and as this tragicomedy unfolds, we can see that the producers pulled out all the stops when it came to choosing locations. In the first episode alone, we are treated to a number of expensive properties.

Roman (Kieran Culkin), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) are planning their revenge for Logan's (Brian Cox) ruthless attempt to stop their coup.

They are doing so in the manner of Roy 2.0 by launching "a high-visibility, execution-dependent, disruptive news brand" called The Hundred. The brand is positioned to provide insights from 100 key shapers in business, technology, politics and culture.

In the opening episode of Season 4, we see the siblings have been working on their media startup from a modern mansion in the hills of Los Angeles.

In real life, the Golden State Mansion is owned by a 26-year-old cryptocurrency billionaire who bought it for $83 million in 2021.

Known as the San Onofre Estate, the modernist hilltop home was built by daring developer Ardie Tavangarian on a one-acre site with views of the Santa Monica Mountains, the Pacific Ocean and downtown Los Angeles.

Inside this 20,000 square foot home are six bedrooms, 18 bathrooms, a drive-in gallery, 20-person movie theatre, outdoor cinema, multiple pools, a custom chef's kitchen by Nobu, and a rooftop terrace with hot tub.

The main suite is only accessible via retina scanner and features a retractable ceiling for stargazing (when not stabbing the family in the back).

When Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) reveals to Schiff that Logan intends to buy Pierce Global Media, Schiff, Kendall and Roman go to see Nan Pierce (Cherry Jones) to see if they can beg for the company before Logan gets it.

In an attempt to get Nan to stop seeing the Roy siblings as "fake fruit for show only", Shiv and the others tell her that they will protect her family's legacy and brand - something they say Logan is hell-bent on destroying. Meanwhile, Nan seemed more interested in the initial deal she had struck with Logan, but after some double-talk, the siblings made a "definitive" offer of $10 billion.

The conniving conversation took place at a historic $30.8 million place in Montecito, California, owned by former Google chief executive Eric Schmidt. The 22,729-square-foot, seven-bedroom, 20-bathroom home sits on 11 acres and features a spacious atrium centred around a palm tree that grows up to the roof; a limestone and marble fireplace; a parlour with 16th-century French oak paneling; antique light fixtures; beamed ceilings; and a vaulted timber porch.

The landscaping is perfect: mature palm trees, rose gardens, orchards, and views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountains.

When the siblings are not bickering, various lovers are. Shiv and Tom end a crazy day with an awkward marital farewell in their shared New York flat.

(I don't want to be confined to my favourites," she said.) They argued, but then fell into bed, stayed close, didn't have sex, didn't chat and hinted at the end of their marriage.

The penthouse, which last sold in 2003 for $7.7 million, was featured in previous seasons and was designed by architect Steven Harris and designed by Rees Roberts + Partners.

The 8,000 sq ft multi-storey penthouse is located in a converted 1930s office building in Tribeca. Inside, there is an enclosed guesthouse; a glass and teak-beamed roof with views of Manhattan and Brooklyn; a chef's kitchen; and a floating, leather-wrapped staircase that climbs up the double-height living room wall.

In the first episode, it's Logan's birthday - which, of course, means he's miserable. Frustrated and annoyed by the happy guests who eat his generous food, Logan and his bodyguard and best friend Colin (Scott Nicholson) escape the fun and head to a restaurant to consider the notion that humans are merely stand-ins for economic units.

The party takes place at Logan's penthouse on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The actual location was also on the Upper East Side - the building's exterior and lobby were filmed at the American Irish Historical Society's 15,000 square foot headquarters at 991 Fifth Avenue. However, the scenes inside the residence were filmed on a sound stage.

In 2021, the space went on the market for $52 million. But after receiving a petition with more than 40,000 signatures against the sale, New York Attorney General Letitia James agreed to protect the historic property.
